A little less than a year ago, I joined CSC Mommy Blogger Tribe, a new community that was working to bring woman who were mothers and bloggers together. The founder, Naza from Sweet P and Sky had developed thriving groups in parts of California and hoped to spread the organization further when Heather Nieves moved away from CA and to SC. I was experiencing a need to learn and grow within my own blogging career while also having a desire to diversify my friendships. This special community checked all the boxes, plus provided some much needed self-care.

Social media can get a bad rap, but when you surround yourself, in-person and online, with positive, supportive souls who have the desire to grow and learn with you, good things happen.

On a Saturday when the fall weather was perfect, a rare occurrence here in the South, The Columbia SC Mommy Blogger Tribe, met for the first time since the pandemic began for a fun evening full of self-care and growth.

CoCreate Lexington hosted the event at their location in a beautiful scenic outdoor space. CoCreate is a shared workspace located in Lexington SC, that provides small business owners a space to do their craft and business. I am so excited that a place like this exists and is thriving.

Candace from Canvases with Candace provided the entertainment plus educational element. She is a true artist and teacher with words of wisdom for everyone who takes her class. It was so much more than a paint and sip! Her business is based on being mobile, so she can bring the party to you, which is perfect in these unprecedented times. Need a fun party idea? Candace has you covered! She is also currently working on her art therapy certification. Some of my favorite Candace quotes were “The key to good art is a good foundation” and “Sometimes you have to step back to get a better view and change your perspective.” True in art and life! And maybe my favorite quote of the night, “The only way to get better at doing something, is by doing it.” I loved Candace, and if you book a party with her I know you will too.

The Blended Bakery provided us some delicious food. Their story is a beautiful one about a blended family and their business. Everyone in the family participates at the store, and if you are near Lexington, SC you should go say hi and get a meal or treat.

And last but not least, what is an event these days without a masks?! Sugar Threads Etc made us not only matching but very high quality mask. The company was started out of a passion to put kids art on apparel and has grown from there. Go check out Naza’s Etsy shop now for some great ideas.

I joined a networking group. If you are on the fence about doing the same, I would push you off and say go for it! It can be hard for creatives like myself to lean into business but meeting these woman, who are alike while also so different, has been elevating and inspiring. Growth takes time and effort. As my friend Candace would say, “The only way to get better at doing something, is by doing it.”

Live well friends,
Christy
